The gift of kindness in Cloverdale

Sonoma County Gazette | November 5, 2022

Cloverdale Mayor Todd Lands, the facilitator for our Homeless Advisory Task Force, looks at the issue of homelessness compassionately and practically. “Because we are a small town, we can know each homeless person by name and know what each person needs so that we can help them individually. We need to open mental health facilities and help those who can’t make logical decisions. We could have a work-release style reform to keep people clean, get them a skill, and help get housing instead of just releasing them back to the streets.” When asked who he’d like to collaborate with, Lands replied, “James Gore and the county have been amazing. I would like more support from the state to help with mental health and more help from the district attorney to keep people in jail who have committed crimes and need time to help them get clean and sober.”
